Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone
Updated: 2006-04-19 11:22
Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone has such four
functional areas as the industrial area, the bonded warehousing area, the
finance and trade area, and the comprehensive service area.
Geographical Location
The Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone (NETDZ) is
located in the northeast suburbs of Nanjing, 5 kilometers from the city
center, close to the Xinshengyu Foreign Trade Harbor, China's largest
inland-river harbor, and the Second Yangtze River Bridge in Nanjing.
Communication and Transportation
Waterway
12 meters deep perennially, the Xinshengyu Harbor, China's largest
inland-river port, is able to berth 12 marine vessels of over 2,5000
tons. The freight is shipped to 188 ports in 78 countries and regions
through more than 10 international routes. Its annual handling capacity
comes up to 10 million tons of goods for foreign trade and the container
handling capacity is 300,000 TEUs.
Road
The Second Yangtze River Bridge goes across the zone. Roads in the zone
are well connected with the round-the-city Ring Road, the
Nanjing-Shanghai Expressway, the Airport Expressway, and six state-level
highways (Nanjing-Hangzhou, Nanjing-Maanshan, Nanjing-Hefei,
Nanjing-Liangyungang Highways, etc.).
Railway
The Nanjing North City Loop Railway runs straight to the NETDZ and the
harbor areas. Through the Yaohuamen Railway Grouping Center, which is the
largest railway hub in East China, the railway is linked to the trunk
lines of the Jin-Pu, Hu-Ning, and Wan-Gan Railways.
Airport
The NETDZ is 50km away from the Nanjing Lukou International Airport, 40
minutes' drive by the expressway.
Human Resources
The NETDZ is near the Nanjing Xianlin University Town, which gathers
prestigious institutions of higher learning, and therefore is a big bank
of talents for research and information.
Industrial Structure
High-tech products take up more than 70 percent of the NETDZ's gross
industrial output. Six pillar industries are electronic information,
bio-pharmacy, light-industrial machinery, refined chemical industry, new
materials, and modern logistics and storage. These industries contribute
more than 90 percent of the total economic output of the zone.
Investment Priorities
The first category of encouraged industries is composed of the six pillar
industries of electronic information, bio-pharmacy, light-industrial
machinery, refined chemical industry, new materials, and modern logistics
and storage. The second category is export processing industry and the
third category is IT industry such as the production of flat panel
monitors.
